Vandal was asked to produce footage for the screens on Robbie Williams landmark European tour celebrating his 25 years in the recording industry. A twelve piece orchestra would feature on 5 tracks and play out on a variety of variable sized screens. Requiring a quick turnaround we had 2 days to bring together the orchestra, find a studio big enough to accommodate them, book a crew and design a lighting set up to suit the space.

With 5 different tracks to shoot in a day the creative challenge was to make each track feel different and capture the energy of the song without losing time through changing lighting and camera positions. We decided to shoot single camera on track and dolly for beautiful smooth moves and swung lenses where needed to garner detail. For lighting we built a 20’ x 20’ top light soft-box that gave us a beautiful single source we could work to all day without changing set ups.

To accommodate the variety of frame sizes we had to deliver in, (from 4:3 to 2400x768), we shot on a Alexa mini LF @ 4.5K (open gate) with the 4444 PRORes codec. When it came to the edit this allowed us to crop and reframe where needed without loosing resolution on the larger screens.

Brilliant musicians, a hard working crew and a great edit made this a project we are really proud of.
